You articulated the message of this song and video beautifully. I agree  that this song is about letting go of the past, about self discovery and about finding one's purpose in life. The video shows us how grief can make us feel stuck in time and lose sight of who we are. The old man wakes up on the same date every day, and he encounters the same threat: the Kraken, a representation of our subconcious and emotions, which sometimes can tower over us and  feel monstruous. He hastily gathers his  belongings, (could mean he is clinging to memories from his past), runs away and hides in a cave. In his fear he forgets his purpose and leaves the lighhouse unattended. Even in his hiding, the  waves still reach and engulf him. He eventually breaks the pattern by facing his fears, which results in acceptance and healing. He realizes that there is nothing to be afraid of anymore and he is now ready to help others who are caught in their own storms. He finds his life purpose - to support others through difficult times. Once he is no longer consumed by his fears and learns these important lesons he is finally able to move on (the calendar shows September 14th).
